Farewell Ski Camp
All good things must come to an end
All good things must come to an end, nothing lasts forever. Never did we think this would include Ski Camp.
Since 1948 Ski Camp, started by the Judsons, was a fixture at the Ridge, a unique program and one of few winter overnight programs in the country. Campers came from near and far to learn to ski – and in later years to snowboard – or to improve on existing skills. Today alumni of the program, former counselors and staff, can be found at ski areas around the country. Customers often stop to visit and reminisce about their younger days spent at camp, many of them with years of camp experience. The legacy lives on.
Two years ago because of COVID camp was empty and quiet. Last season because of COVID camp was empty and quiet. COVID has changed forever many things in our lives and ski camp is a victim – we’ve made the difficult decision that camp will not run again. COVID will always to some extent be with us and we do not feel that we can safely run a program during the winter given the nature of the season(closed windows and minimal air circulation from outdoors) without making huge modifications in the buildings.
For many counselors and campers Ski Camp was a second family. It made a profound impact on the lives of thousands over the years. We will cherish the memories and share the stories for years to come. Ski Camp will forever be a part of each of us who were lucky enough to experience it. Thank you to all who made Otis Ridge Ski Camp the treasure that it was. Thank you to the parents who trusted us to keep their children safe no matter the weather while participating in a sport that is inherently dangerous. Thank you to the counselors who put their own needs second to make camp safe and enjoyable for everyone who attended. Thank you to the campers who always kept us on our toes with their antics and in stitches with their humor. Otis Ridge Ski Area is not going anywhere and we hope you will continue to visit the ski area for years to come.IF CAMP WAS PART OF YOUR CHILDHOOD AS A CAMPER OR YOUR TEEN/ADULT YEARS AS STAFF, WE’D LOVE TO HEAR ABOUT YOUR MEMORIES.
